Basement remodeling ideas

Basements have been a permanent feature in house building for many years now, but people have been usually using them as a messy storage room for their Christmas decorations and childhood memorabilia, without even considering making it into an actual, useful room. In recent years, however, basements have been given a second chance with more and more people deciding to use that space to their advantage, creating some of the most beautiful interiors under their houses. You can do it too! Need some ideas on remodelling your basement – we’ve got you covered.

Basement as a cosy room

We know you need your storage space and that the basement might be the only place to keep all of your spare decorations, winter clothes and old photo albums at. It doesn’t mean, however, you need to let it collect dust and go dirty! Once you decide to completely redesign your basement and create proper storage space there, you can use the rest of the room to your advantage. Think about some good quality built-in wardrobes with mirrored sliding doors across one of the walls of your basement – it will create a visual effect of the room being bigger and lighter. Then, simply pick a style that fits the rest of your house, paint the walls, finish up the flooring, bring down some heating and buy cosy furniture. Big sofas, blankets, candles, warm lighting, art on the walls, a tv screen and maybe even a wine cellar. There’s not much you can’t put in the basement! Remember to keep it in sync with the rest of the house and enjoy your cosy time! Bonus? In the summer, the basement is always a bit colder, which makes it the perfect place to sit when you feel like you’re melting.

Basement as a spare bedroom

You never know where to put your guests when they come to stay the night? Basement is the perfect place to make into a spare bedroom! If probably have all the piping there, so just build a nice on-suite, pick a comfortable bed and set it as you would any other bedroom in the house. Remember that there is less light in the basement, which makes for a perfect place to sleep in, but don’t forget to put in good lighting as well in case someone decides to use it as their work station or reading room as well. Basements don’t need to be the ugliest space in the house – use them wisely and enjoy your extra room!
